LED light therapy, explained

NASA were the first to use this technology to assist plant growth, while the Navy SEALs used it for accelerating wound healing in those with musculoskeletal injuries. It wasn't long before this regenerative light therapy was adopted by medical and aesthetic professionals.

“A good way to think of it,” explains aesthetic surgeon, Dr. Glyn Estebanez, “is like plants absorbing sunlight to power photosynthesis and boost tissue growth. Human cells can absorb light wavelengths to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.” Reported by the Evening Standard.

What is red LED light therapy good for?

LED light therapy uses varying wavelengths to activate the skin’s natural cell rejuvenation and repair process. Red and near-infrared wavelengths are used for accelerated, non-invasive anti-ageing due to their collagen and elastin stimulating properties.

Red light therapy wavelengths are ideal for fading fine lines, wrinkles and inflammation. It’s also extremely effective for tackling acne, rosacea and sun damage.

Near-infrared light is the deepest absorbed wavelength. It’s used to reverse the signs of ageing by improving skin elasticity, reducing inflammation, redness and wound healing.

Combined, these wavelengths deliver immediate and lasting results for fresher, calmer and healthier skin. They also target other skin conditions and cosmetic concerns, such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. Suitable for both face and body, this professional medical-grade technology has the ability to truly transform your skin.

The benefits of red LED light therapy are more than just skin deep. It’s been proven to support the production of vitamin D, with users finding that regular treatments reduce stress and improve energy levels.

LED red light therapy for anti-ageing

"Red light and near-infrared light wavelengths really help to reduce inflammation and create collagen," explains Aesthetics Clinician, Dr. Ayah. Collagen helps the skin look younger, plumper and more evenly textured – which some studies have shown naturally decreases from our mid twenties onwards. This is where the term ‘prejuvenation’ comes in.

Discussed in the Evening Standard – “'prejuvenation' is a preventative protocol that combines a good skincare regime with non-surgical treatments to help promote collagen production and support the skin barrier,” says Cosmetic Surgeon and founder of 111 Harley Street Cosmetic Clinic, Dr. Yannis Alexandrides. When it comes to anti-ageing, prevention is also key for award-winning Aesthetician, Dr. Ahmed El Muntasar who argues, “prevention is always better than a cure.”

For those of us who want a skin refresh, red light therapy will deliver rejuvenating skincare results no matter your age.

Featuring red (633nm) and near-infrared (830nm) wavelengths to support professional anti-ageing from home.

“I’ve treated multiple patients with at-home devices and they’ve worked significantly,” Dr. Ayah explains. “What we find is that at-home devices are fantastic at supporting what we do in-clinic, and they really do enhance the results.”
